An underground powder magazine is a secure, reinforced storage facility for explosives used in mining operations, specifically designed to minimize the risk of accidental detonation and ensure safety for workers. Indeed, one of the most critical aspects of ensuring the safety of gold mine workers and preserving an overall commercial mining operation is the all-important need to ensure explosives used in excavation are protected from multiple standpoints.
Naturally, underground powder magazines are highly-regulated, and, among multiple safeguards, are required to deploy explosion-proof lighting according to unique specifications; This is where Western Technology excels, yet another reason why the company’s gear is deployed in a wide range of demanding, often critical infrastructure and national security-related projects for industrial, marine, aviation, aerospace, and government customers.
Kinross Gold’s Round Mountain site is a massive operation, measuring approximately 8,000 to 8,200 feet long and 7,200 feet wide, with a depth of 1,200 to 1,500 feet, supporting approximately 750 jobs at the Nevada location. This is Western Technology, Inc.’s first foray into the gold mining sector, highlighting the remarkably diverse utility – indeed, necessity – of explosion-proof industrial lighting and other related, market-leading solutions that Western Technology provides.
