Reliable Operation is Required

Don't Use these legacy lightsAdvantages of using the KICK-IT TOUGH™ LED Safety Lights – reliable & durable lighting that out performs lighting previously used on work sites. Reduce downtime and waste, it’s time to upgrade you lighting systems:

  • No costly light failures – no bulbs, no ballast, no fragile or Hot filaments, no gases, and no mercury to dump into our landfill.
  • Reduce light maintenance to an absolute minimum.

OSHA Regulations

Workplace safety proceduresOSHA mandates safety procedures in the work environment to mitigate risk to personnel and facilities.

*Effective Aug. 10, 2016 – 29 CFR 1904, Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries is required to “better inform workers, employers, the public and OSHA about workplace hazards.”

  • 29 CFR 1910 – Occupational Safety and Health Standards
    • §1910 Subpart J – General Environmental Controls
      – §1910.146 – Permit-Required Confined Spaces
    • §1910 Subpart S – Electrical
      – §1910.307 – Hazardous (Classified) Locations
  • 29 CFR 1915 – Safety and Health Standards for Shipyard Employment
    • §1915 Subpart B – Confined and Enclosed Space in Shipyards
    • §1915.82 – Lighting

OSHA Regulation: [Confined Space]
29 CFR 1910.146, 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B, & 29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA

Confined Space, OSHA, MarineClassifying the Confined Space

In order to classify the confined space properly, the worker must first determine:

  1. Can someone fit into this space?
  2. Does this space have limited ways of access and egress?
  3. Was this space meant for short-term human occupancy?

If the answer is Yes to these questions, then the space is a confined space by definition.

The next determination is:
Do I need a permit to enter this space?

  • The answer is Yes, if there is a recognized or suspected hazard in the space, then it is a PRCS –Permit-Required Confined Space.

Illumination for Work Environments

Minimum Illumination Chart

  1. Based upon levels of illumination recommended for sample occupational tasks in ANSI/IES RP7 and 29CFR19(10/18/26)
  2. Based upon maximum luminance ratios from ANSI/IES RP 7

OSHA Directed Personal Lighting

OSHA directs personal lighting requirements under 29 CFR, stating:

  • Walking, working, and climbing areas shall be illuminated.
  • Lighting Intensity must be measured at the personnel’s task/working surface.
  • Must not shine into the eyes of personnel.
  • Portable lights must be protected from damage.
  • Cords must be extra-hard usage.
  • Lights used shall be listed by an NRTL.

Employees are, under 29 CFR 1918.92(e), “…Not permitted to enter dark holds, compartments, decks or other spaces without a flashlight or other portable light.”

Lighting required for various locations, hazardous, ordinary, wet location, or a confined space

Hazardous Materials

Classifying whether a light or electrical equipment maybe be in a Hazardous location is determined by the Hazardous Material in the location. Our KICK-IT TOUGH™ LED Safety Lights are certified to work in Class I, Div. 1 & 2, Groups C & D; Class II, Div. 1 & 2, Groups E, F, & G. They have also been certified to Canadian Standards Association: CSA Zones 1 & 2; Zones 201, 21, 22 locations.

Demanding Lighting Environments

lighting up a confined spacePortable lights must withstand normal and often extreme operating conditions of the environment – Do your work lights meet these requirements?:

  • Withstand repeated impacts, falls, scrapes, mishandling – Built like a Tool (not a flashlight) !
  • Safely operate in ALL weather conditions.
  • Are easily handled and quickly positioned into place in a variety environments.

* Portable lights must supply the required illumination for the user in the work environment – 29 CFR 1915.82. Often, multiple users must use the same light source in a confined space.

KICK-IT TOUGH™, LED Safety Lights, certified lighting, explosion proof, led, portable, LVLE,* The light selected must be safe for use in the presence of flammable substances.

* The lights must provide a long-term dependable and economical solution for the user.

** There is a Series of Lights that meet these requirements.

Hazardous/Ordinary/Wet Location Portable Lighting

Hazardous/Ordinary Portable Lighting must be certified Explosion Proof / Dust Ignition Proof / Intrinsically Safe by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL), such as:

UL & ETL Intertek LogoUnderwriters Laboratories (UL), Intertek (ETL), FM Global Approvals (FM), NSF, etc.
* Our lights and/or power supply boxes are CERTIFIED at a minimum to these standards:
